The timeless, straight-line design of the luminaires of this series using the natural material wood represents a striking difference to conventional wooden luminaires, which often look very rustic.
Corian is a high-quality acrylic-bonded mineral material with an enormous variety of decorations. Haptically and visually resembles natural stone.
In order to keep the luminaire body as filigree as possible, the heat dissipation of the built-in high-power LED boards is focused on the end caps by a newly developed design. Multi-day tests at maximum load have shown that the temperature in the closed luminaire body on the PCB remains below 40°C. This results in a particularly long lightfastness of the LED modules (more than 30,000 hours). The light is emitted both to the side and to the bottom by different diffuser discs made of acrylic. Due to the alignment of the pigments in the diffuser discs, the light emitted to the side is glare-free, flat and vertical directed downwards.
The inspiration for this series of lamps came to designer Detlev Belau when he dealt with the particularly delicate wood art of the Japanese. Thin wooden strips ’Kumiko' play a special role in the design of the well-known translucent partition walls ’Shoji'. These draw fine lines on diffuse translucent surfaces, which are covered with thin rice paper. The interplay of diffuse light surfaces and sensitive wood applications also characterises the appearance of the luminaires from the Kumiko series.
